Research has shown that structured interviews are more valid than unstructured, that is, they are more accurate in predicting which applicants will make good employees.
The best job interview answers come in the form of mimicking. No not in a teasing fashion but with the use of repeating the question and delivering answers via analogies. - During your job interview try to adopt a posture that shows interest but still comes across as being relaxed. You can do this by sitting up straight in your chair at the beginning of the interview, with your back against the back of the chair. If you slouch or hang sideways in your chair, it might give the impression that you are not that interested in the job. However, sitting on the edge of your chair can come across as being a little tense and might give the impression that you feel uncomfortable.
- Additionally, some professions have specific types of job interviews; for performing artists, this is an audition in which the emphasis is placed on the performance ability of the candidate.
- Organize and prepare all the papers you will need with you at your job interview. Your main document is your resume. If you don't have a resume, take instead your school records, Social Security card, work records, licenses, military records, dates of employment and names of your employers.
- The appropriate shoes for office job interviews will be dress shoes, flats or heels of around 3 inch heel or less. With closed toes, clean, and will complement your outfit, but will not overpower it. The ideal shoes will be free of metallic finishes, overdone embellishments, and excessively high heels. Having said all of that, it seems like you have few choices, but that is really not the case.
- The most common interview questions are basically the same in almost all job interviews so it's easy to practice and develop answers that make sense and sound professional.
- Candidates for lower paid and lower skilled positions tend to have much simpler job interviews than do candidates for more senior positions. For instance, a lawyer's job interview will be much more demanding than that of a retail cashier. Most job interviews are formal; the larger the firm, the more formal and structured the interview will tend to be. Candidates generally dress slightly better than they would for work, with a suit (called an interview suit) being appropriate for a white collar job interview.
- On the day of your job interview, leave early from your home to allow enough time for you to arrive to your interview at least twenty minutes before your scheduled interview is to start. You'll be glad you did this in the long run. Arriving at your interview early gives you a chance to relax and reduce your stress level prior to your interview.
- After your job interview send a follow up thank you letter or note to the person that interviewed you within 24 48 hours after your interview. You can also consider emailing your interviewer a thank you note as an alternative method.
